Hello to all my wand-erful SAS families. I'm very excited to be working with your children once again this year. I am a graduate of TESU and the NPTNJ program. I began teaching Technology and Media at St. Mary School in Bordentown in 2003 and taught there for 10 years. When the school was closed, I taught Tech at St. Paul School-Burlington, and then 5th grade at St. Charles Borromeo-Cinnaminson, 4th grade at SAS for three years, 3rd grade for 1 year, and currently Middle School ILA and Kin-4th Technology/STREAM. I am extremely blessed with three children. My son is beginning his 3rd year in graduate courses for Chiropractic at Life University in Georgia, my eldest daughter graduated from Kean University with a BA in Fine Arts/Art Therapy minoring in Psychology and just had her first art gallery opening in June. She is happily working in the art field at The Grounds for Sculpture, and my youngest daughter is a Kindergarten para-professional. I am very proud of their accomplishments and can't believe just how quickly they have grown.
If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to email me at kmeyer@st-ann-school.org.
This is going to be a very exciting year. Our classroom theme, Harry Potter "Books! And cleverness. There are far more important things friendship and bravery," is in full swing throughout both our rooms. This year Beary Potter will get to go home each weekend with one of my fifth graders. Beary has traveled all over the East Coast. I'm a little jealous of all his travels over the years. The student will get to journal all that they do with Beary while he is staying with them. Beary has his very own bed, clothing, and a replica of Hogwarts made by some of my former students. He is well-loved and taken care of every year.
We will read A Wrinkle in Time as our first novel and then delve right into the first and second books from the Harry Potter series (they are available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble). I'm very excited to read these novels with the 5th grade. Believe it or not, one year my 4th graders read more than halfway through the 4th book. It was amazing.
I firmly believe that "teachers who love teaching teach children to love learning" and that is what I hope to bring to all the kids. Not many people can say they love their job; however, I am one of them. I want them to become strong, independent people who will always be curious and think outside the box.
